Scholarship Name : National Science Day (NSD) 2024 &  Aruna Lal Scholarship


National Science Day will be celebrated by Physical Research Laboratory on Wednesday, 6th March 2024. On this occasion, Aruna Lal Scholarships will be awarded to meritorious students selected based on a screening test, followed by competitive events and personal interview. The Aruna Lal scholarship has been instituted by Late Prof. Devendra Lal, former Director of Physical Research Laboratory.


Application and Eligibility : Principals of higher secondary schools of Gujarat are requested to nominate students of 11th standard (Science stream). Please register the school using the School Registration menu and subsequently nominate your student(s). The schools having multiple mediums (English/ Gujarati/ Hindi) can register each medium separately. Each medium can nominate a maximum of 10 students.


Screening Test : A screening test will be conducted on Sunday, 21st January 2024. The screening test (i.e. OMR based exam) will be held at 21 different centres across Gujarat [Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Vadodara, Vallabh Vidyanagar, Bharuch, Surat, Valsad, Porbandar, Rajkot, Bhuj, Patan, Palanpur, Mehsana, Amreli, Adipur (Gandhidham), Jamnagar, Junagadh, Modasa and Bhavnagar].


Selection Procedure : Top 150 students in the merit list of the screening test will be selected for the subsequent round of competitive events, on Wednesday, 6th March 2024.


Aruna Lal Scholarships


On the occasion of the National Science Day, the Aruna Lal Scholarships are awarded to five meritorious students selected based on a screening test, followed by personal interview by a panel of experts. The Aruna Lal foundation was established by Late Prof. Devendra Lal in memory of his wife Mrs. Aruna Lal.


Late Prof. Devendra Lal was Director of PRL (1972-1983) and Visiting Professor at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California, San Diego, USA (1989 - 2012).


The fellowship is given to encourage higher school children to pursue studies in basic sciences. These Scholarships are awarded for a period of two years to 5 students of 11th Standard (Science Stream) subject to their satisfactory performance in science subjects during higher secondary. This may be extended to 3rd year in case of those awardees who study in basic sciences after 12th standard. At present the scholarship amount is Rs. 10000/- per annum.
